Legal status
The Maldives prohibits gambling, and the ban is written into the Penal Code. Online betting is not licensed. The Communications Authority of Maldives and the police block offshore gambling websites. In 2026 the government proposed a Penal Code amendment that would explicitly criminalise online and electronic gambling.

Because of this, 1x_529930 Bonus Desk does not promote 1xBet in Maldives: there are no sign-up instructions or bonus offers for Maldives on this site, and our partner link does not send visitors from Maldives to 1xBet.
Sport and betting in Maldives
Football is the most-watched sport, and European leagues are popular on local TV. Officials say illegal betting has moved to Telegram groups and social media, so blocking websites has not fully stopped it. In 2026 the government put forward a Penal Code amendment to tighten the ban.
What this means for you
- Do not use VPNs or “mirror” sites to get around the law — accounts opened that way can be closed and winnings withheld, and you may break local law.
- You would have no local regulator to complain to if something went wrong.
- If betting is legal in your country, use operators licensed by your national regulator.
